Which part are you having trouble visualizing? For starters, try that A scale -- 1st finger on the G string and every time there's a half step slide that finger up to the next note and keep on going, come what may. That ends up being like this: G string: 12334, D string (stay where you got to, which is 2d position, and continue:) 122344 (you're in 4th position already, stay there:) A string: 12334 (ended in 6th position there); E string: 112344 ending on an A 3 octaves above where you started, in 8th position!
Hey Dorothy, I had issues and did it wrong several times and then slowed down on that first example and noticed I had to go from my 3rd finger on A down to 2nd finger on G# (all natural enough) AHH but that is when I crawl up with my first finger on A then second finger on B (my way) {{twice}} then 4th finger on C. Although it is depicted with the 4th on both the B and C - my way seems to be easier for me and make more sense.
EDIT: Once again I open my mouth without thinking it through to the end. Please note that my way is the wrong way if you are to apply the half step rule as B to C IS IN FACT another half step.
Yes you ended up in the right place -- 4th finger on the E string, slide up a half step to 4th finger on the E string -- this is in the Pointe Au Pic example, right?
Yes. Well, Ed; I still blew it bad I think but not sure. In doing the A scale I found the correct way to do this stuff. THIS IS SO COOL IT'S LIKE MAGIC. Trying in all scales as the week goes on but this is my "tour" weekend where I go 100 miles west (long way for an old timer like me) with my camper and play a jam at the lake Friday night - sleep over in camper and move the next day to a church 30 minutes away for community breakfast. Kill the rest of the day practicing. Church choir playing Sunday morning where I try and back up the guitar with my fiddle and then on to the Bass Pro Shop for a 2pm 2 hour jam with a bunch of people mostly whom I do not know. Its a blast but I make it home from Shreveport by about 6pm and should have enough time for a beer in the pool. You are the GREATEST teacher in my group of teachers and I don't believe I have ever seen you play the fiddle.
HUMOR: Are you just faking this "I can teach you the fiddle" stuff?
Sounds like a great trip, and some music in there too! Haven't seen me play? Here's one from 17 years ago. My son was 18, on the piano. A student of my wife's danced a Highland dance my wife made for the Jerry Holland tune. At about 4:16 the bow slips out of my hand, I catch it, and keep going! https://youtu.be/hGfKLecXXYI
This is so cool. And YES, intonation better on the half step. Not mysteriously so far away.
first example seems it should be a 2 above last note first measure.
I can't visualize this from the written description. I would love to see a video demo of it with a talking description of each step.
