Originally, I invited you to join us Sun 15 Feb for a special guest performance/chat/workshop by the Grammy-winning master of Cajun/Creole fiddling, Mitch Reed. This event is now available on video. Details are at this link.
This week we started as it is best to start, with something mindless and note-less — making your fiddle speak on open strings with good sound and timing, foundational efforts that carry into everything you do.
We’ll then add a new left-hand warmup to increase agility and finger independence, go over technique for learning tunes, starting with bowing and adding the layer of solving fingering puzzles, and end with a discussion about playing in a session and other ideas.
So here we go! Join in, and remember, it’s not about only what you understand, but mostly about what your ears and muscles get a chance to experience. Do it for them!
